During your stay in Florence you must take ...
SEE TOURThe best way to experience a new city, is by taking a tour with a local that can explain all your surroundings. Thanks to this full day tour of Florence, you will walk along the main attractions of the city with your guide and also visit two of the most important museums: Uffizi Gallery and Galleria dell’Accademia.
Your guide will come pick you up at your hotel, and together you will head to the Galleria dell’Accademia. This art gallery offers some of the most stunning paintings and sculptures by the most famous Italian artists such as the David and the Prisoners by Michelangelo. After your visit in the Galleria, you will start your walking journey in the historical centre of Florence.
You will first arrive in one of the main squares of Florence, Piazza Santa Croce, home to the famous Basilica that takes its same name. The Basilica contains sixteen chapels and many of them were painted by the talent of Giotto, a famous Italian painter and architect of the 13th century. In the Basilica of Santa Croce you can also find the tomb of Michelangelo.
Your next stop will be in the political centre of Florence, Piazza della Signoria, where you can find the Uffizi Gallery, that today hosts one of the most important Italian art collections you can find, and Palazzo Vecchio, the town hall.
In Piazza Duomo, you can find the marvellous Cathedral of Santa Maria in Fiore, one of the symbols of Florence thanks to its unique architecture, picturesque dome by Brunelleschi and iconic bell tower by Giotto. A true beauty is the main entrance door to the Baptistery of San Giovanni, a golden Gate to Paradise.
After your walk across the main squares you will take a lunch break and then make your way to Ponte Vecchio. This iconic bridge that crosses the River Arno, hosts the majority of the jewellers and art dealers of the city. The shops once were occupied by butchers, but then King Ferdinand I thought that the symbol of Florence should be occupied by a more noble business and ordered to change the shops into jewelleries.
You will quickly pass by the “Porcellino”, a lucky charm of Florence, a statue of a wild boar. If you rub the snout of the boar you are guaranteed to return to Florence one day.
Your last stop will be the visit to the Uffizi Gallery, one of the most famous art galleries in the world that holds a priceless collection of the works of art made especially in the Italian Renaissance. Some of the works are from Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, Botticelli and Caravaggio, just to say a few names. Thanks to skip-the-line tickets you will be in the Uffizi Gallery in no time!
